Reading the PSA and Updating a Data Target BI Persistent Staging Area

Use

You can use this process to further update data from the PSA. This takes place after all data packages arrived in the PSA and were successfully updated there.

Note that it is not possible to create more than one process of type Read PSA and Update Data Target for one request or InfoPackage at any one time. You cannot simultaneously update into more than one data target. Updating into more than one data target can currently only occur sequentially.

This process replaces the indicator Subsequently Update into Data Targets on the Processing tab page in the Scheduler. When using an InfoPackage in a process chain, this indicator is grayed out in the Scheduler and the Read PSA and Update Data Target process is controlled by process chain maintenance.

Any settings previously made in the InfoPackage are then ignored.

Procedure

...

1. In the SAP BW Menu, choose Administration ® Process Chains.

In the Administrator Workbench, choose Process Chain Maintenance from the symbol bar.

The Process Chain Maintenance Planning View screen appears.

2. In the left-hand screen area of the required Display Component, navigate to the process chain in which you want to insert the process. Double-click to select it. Alternatively, you can create a new process chain.

The system displays the process chain plan view in the right-hand side of the screen. You can find additional information under Creating a Process Chain.

3. In the left-hand screen area, choose Process Types.

The system now displays the process categories available.

4. Insert the Read PSA and Update Data Target application process into the process chain using Drag&Drop. The dialog box for inserting a process variant appears.

5. In the Process Variants field, enter the name of the application process you want to insert into the process chain. A value help is available, which lists all process variants that have already been created.

Choose Create if you want to create a new process variant. A dialog box appears, in which you can enter a description for your application process.

Enter the description for your application process and choose Next. The process chain maintenance screen appears.

In the upper screen area, the system displays the following information for the variant:

- Technical name

- Description (You can make an entry in this field)

- Last Changed by

- Last changed on

6. There are two ways of specifying which requests are to be further updated into which data targets:

a. In the table, in the Object Type column, you can choose Execute InfoPackage, and then one or more InfoPackages to be included in the process chain. Select neither PSA Table nor Data Target.

As a result, during the chain run, those requests are updated that were loaded with the specified InfoPackages into the PSA within the chain. Data targets and PSA tables are stored in the InfoPackages.

b. Select PSA Table and Data Target. You can also choose Request as the Object Type in the table, and then one or more requests.

As a result, only the selected requests are updated from the specified PSA table into the specified data target.

Only use this setting when calling up the process for the first time. Afterwards, the request is already in the data target and must then be deleted before updating again. Furthermore, this setting cannot be transported as the requests numbers are local to the system and the specified request definitely does not exist in the target system.

7. Save your entries and go back. The Process Chain Maintenance Planning View screen appears.

Result

You have inserted the Read PSA and Update Data Target application process into the process chain.

You can find further information about the additional steps taken when creating a process chain here: Creating a Process Chain.
